Two women from different generations and walks of life must learn to embrace one another as they strive to expand the influence of their women’s club in early 20th century Lancaster.
Alice Nevin decides that her small group of women needs to expand in order to create the lasting impact she yearns for. As they increase in size and complexity, she struggles to facilitate growth. She feels inadequate to lead, trusting neither the motives nor the capability of the younger women, believing it all the be spinning out of her control. When she is convinced the join the women’s club, she sees it as just another stepping stone on her way into the high societies of the North East. Alice Nevin’s unorthodox approach soon begins unraveling the threads of her perfectly stitched life, however, and she begins questioning if the life she thought she wanted was indeed the one after all. The sudden death of her alcoholic brother pitches her headlong into a sea of change that she was only just beginning to step into, upsetting the balance of everything in her life, club included. Can Daisy temper the storm within her into a force that will help The Iris Club take its first steps, or will her grief, mixed with newfound independence, push her to derail everything that the women have been fighting for?
